Guards help Philosophy student catch suspect in laptop theft

Two security officers of the University of the Philippines recovered a P33,000 laptop from a man who stole it from a Philosophy student at the Philosophy KAPPihan September 23, police said.

According to the police report, security guard Dennis Nieva, 39, of Brgy. Pinyahan, Quezon City, and Special Services Brigade (SSB) member, Francisco Bayoneta, 43, of Pook Dagohoy, Quezon City, captured at Beta Way Mario Ebarra, 30, of Sampaloc, Manila.

At 6:16 p.m., Andrew Miguel Adriano, 20, from Taytay Rizal, left his laptop at PH 207, where the Philosophy KAPPihan was held, to get coffee.

He found out his laptop was missing when he returned to the room after the forum. The room technician told Adriano that a man wearing a black jacket took the laptop.

Adriano asked for help from Nieva, who immediately searched for Ebarra. At the second floor, Nieva found Ebarra, who fled when asked to identify himself.

The chase continued outside the building where Bayoneta was managing traffic along Roxas corner Roces Avenue.

Upon hearing Nieva blowing his whistle and calling Ebarra thief, Bayoneta joined the chase.

They caught Ebarra at Beta Way and brought him back to Palma Hall, where Adriano confirmed the laptop to be his own.

Ebarra is currently under the custody of the Quezon City Police Department Station 9. ▪
