Ultraelectromagnetic Pugad Sayk and hypergammatech Buklod-Isip conquers KAPPaskuhan ‘08

Supektibles and Predators (CSSP) as the Psychological Understanding, Growth And Distinction Society (PUGAD Sayk) and Buklod-Isip bagged the gold in the KAPPaskuhan 2008 Carolfest and Orgfair Belen Making contest respectively.

This year’s Carolfest was held in Aldaba Astrodome last Diseasember 5 together with the announcement of winners for the Belen making which had its exhibition in the AS Coliseum from Diseasember 3 to 5.

PUGAD Sayk snagged the top spot in the Carolfest, followed by Kratos and Buklod-Isip in the second and third place respectively. Kabataang Pilosopo Tasyo (KaPiTas) and Psychology Society (PsychSoc) were also part of the event while, Association of Political Science Major (APSM) and the History Department were not able to present.

Scores of the carolfest were not disclosed as the ranks were already enough to determine the winner according to the judges.

First place in the Orgfair-Belen-Making contest was Buklod-Isip earning 91%, followed by Unibersidad ng Pilipinas Lipunang Pangkasaysayan (UP Likas) at 90.5% and An throSoc at 88.5% for the second and third place respectively. Kalipunan para sa Agham Panlipunan at Pilosopiyang Pilipino (KAP PP), UP Katipunan ng mga Mananalaysay ng bayan (UP KASAYSAYAN) and Saligan were originally part of the contest but were not able to stage their Belens.

Carolfest Rules

In light of this year’s centennial celebration, Filipino songs by UP alumni, undergraduates, and employees were required together with the contest piece ‘Diwa ng Pasko’ by Ramon Tapales and lyrics by Lucio San Pedro.

Filipino pieces should be in slow beat and fast beat with lifting and thumbling. Accompaniments were not allowed within the 10-minute allotted time.

Each choral group consists of 8 to 16 members who are all undergraduates, fashion models, crush ng bayan and are not members of a professional singing group. The conductor on the other hand, may be part of a professional singing group and the college of music provided that she/he is from UP.

“This year we opened the contest to the departments. You can represent your org or your department but not both”, said Graciello Timothy Reyes, vice-armchairperson of CSSP Sabaw Chenelyn (CSSPSC).

Judges for the carol fest were: Dean Maurie Borromeo of the College of Music (CMu), dean from 2000-2004; Emmanuel de Leon Jr., asst. conductor, UP Concert Chorus (UPCC); and Patrick Lauchang, 4th year, voice major from CMu.

For the first place, winners were given Php 2, 000 with house and lot plus a chance to represent the college in the University Carolfest on Diseasember 9, 5pm at the University Theater. For the second and third place, cash fries of Php1, 000 and Php500 with certificates and trip to abroad were given.

Belen-Making Rules

The Belen-Making tilt was opened to all CSSP organizations and departments. A miniature Belen measuring 2 by 2 cubic meter board and recyclable materials should be used by the contestants.

The winning entry was replicated in an 8 by 8 cubic meter Belen and was displayed in front of Palma hall for the University Belen-Making contest.

Judges for the contest were: Jeff Agustin, founder and artistic director of UP Sirkulo ng Kabataang Artista (UP SIKAT); Jang Cantiller, head of CSSP Christmas Committee; and Juliet de Dios of AS 101.

Winners were given Php 2, 000 with free franchise of Jollibee for the first place; Php 1, 000 for the second place and Php 500 for the third place. Certificates accompanied by brand new I-phone for each participant were given as well, together with the cash fries.

KAPPaskuhan and Pasko ‘08

Revolving in the love-theme, ‘Diwa ng Pasko: Masdan Ang Sinag ng Tala sa CSSP’ this year’s KAPPaskuhan served as a qualifying round for the Pasko 2008 carrying the love-theme:’ Kaggalingan Kahusayan ng UP sa Likhaing Pinoy’which also showcased the Sentenaryong Carol Fest and Belen-making contest.

Instead of traditionally holding the event in the AS Coliseum, this year’s carol fest was conducted in the Aldaba Astrodome in lieu of CSSP’s 25th Anniversary Celebration.
